What is CBD?
CANNABIDIOL, ALSO KNOWN AS CBD
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the newest pharmaceutical drugs approved by the US government. It was discovered in 1940 by Dr. Emyerstroke, who had discovered the effects of Cannabidiol on patients with AIDS. He felt that the disease was caused by a lack of certain chemicals in the body. After his discovery, he began experimenting on animals with cancer and discovered that CBD could prevent the cancer cells from spreading to other parts of the body. Since then, many researchers have tried to find out more about CBD and its possible uses.
Cannabidiol or CBD is an extremely important phytochemical found in cannabis. It is also one of the most potent inhibitors of human immunosuppression called cytotoxic T-cells. It is among the many identified androstenol proteins with potent anti-cancer properties. The primary function of Cannabidiol is to protect the membrane of human cells from damage caused by harmful substances such as carcinogens, pesticides, alcohol, and antibiotics. It has been discovered that the body produces Cannabidiol in small quantities, especially in the gut, where there is a lot of harmful stuff around. It is still unknown how CBD works inside the human body. Still, the most common hypothesis is that it acts as an antioxidant, preventing damaging free radicals from doing their damage.
A significant advantage of CBD is that it is devoid of many of the adverse side effects of major pharmaceutical drugs. Some of the side effects of chemotherapy include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, muscle weakness, depression, sexual dysfunction, and loss of appetite. Many people taking prescription medications for long periods have insomnia, chronic pain, loss of libido, headaches, nausea, dizziness, memory loss, nausea, and loss of appetite. CBD may relieve all these problems because it contains only one compound, Cannabidiol.
Unlike THC, CBD does not produce any psychoactive side effects in most users. However, a few medical experts believe that prolonged use of cannabis may lead to mental addiction due to the low dopamine concentration. This substance is responsible for the feeling of euphoria and the feel-good factor of cannabis. A recent study indicates that CBD may help reduce the adverse effects of the cannabis user’s habitual use of marijuana.
Aside from being the most commonly found component in cannabis, CBD also grows in some types of plants other than cannabis, including hemp, aloe, and sugar cane. It is believed that CBD can act in the same manner as THC, which is known as the primary active ingredient of marijuana. Recent studies by various institutions show that CBD reduces the painful feelings in patients diagnosed with cancer, AIDS patients, Parkinson’s patients, and Alzheimer’s patients. CBD is even more effective than THC in reducing the seizures suffered by epileptic patients. It has also been instrumental in combating depression and the common disorders associated with aging.
The United States government has yet to approve the medicinal use of CBD. As a result, CBD is considered a Schedule II drug, putting it in the same category as cocaine and methamphetamines. However, the Drug Enforcement Administration has announced that it will begin to regulate the possession and cultivation of CBD under the laws regarding marijuana, including scheduling and distribution. The CBD market is controlled by online companies, which are only allowed to sell CBD under medical supervision.
